Stories from the Beaverbrae reunions

Lore met her husband Hugo in this exact spot in Germany, shortly before they both came to Canada on the Beaverbrae ship in 1950. He was the brother of one of her friends! Although they went separate ways at first (Alberta and Saskatchewan), they reunited, got married and had their first child in 1952. Lore is very happy to have a photo that symbolizes the beginning of her marriage (we're sending her a copy!)

  1. As a child of 2 refugee parents, I found this event amazing. The pride, celebrating accomplishments, having the safety of our families to share their “journey through their eyes” without repercussions and the healing of the past through common bonds and memories was beautiful. I learnt alot about my character and their lives. I believe it needs to be held again next yr. on the 70th anniversary and bring out the many that were unaware of its benefit. We understand the refugee journey we now see very well.

    • I’m glad that it made such an impact on you. It was really meaningful for staff at CLWR as well, meeting people who were helped by our agency at its beginning so many years ago and hearing their stories.
