A CLWR prayer for the Third Sunday of Advent

Reflection: John of the Cross is highly regarded for his poetry and his studies on the growth of the soul. His writings are considered among the pinnacle of mystical Spanish literature and arguably all Spanish literature.

“A Christmas Refrain”

The Virgin, weighed

with the Word of God,

comes down the road:

if only you’ll shelter her.

Advent 3 Dec. 11.2014-3

O Heavy Word, Weighty Word calling from deep unto deep:

Come to us. Come for us. Speak to us. Speak from us.

O Heavy Word, Weighty Word, Word that is paradoxically “easy” and “light:”

Journey with us along this road, in this season of our lives. Inspire us to make room for you and a shelter for all.

Amen.

Our December prayers are contributed by The Rev. Scott L. Adams, an ELCA pastor from the United States currently serving as interim chaplain at Luther College at the University of Regina. Many thanks to Rev. Adams!
