A CLWR prayer for the First Sunday in Advent

God of promise, we await the Messiah, the one who was, who is, and who is to come.

We don’t like to wait, for anything. We prefer to fill all our time with the distractions of noise and activity. Our cure for impatience is bodies in constant motion, and heads filled with noise. We miss the opportunity to see the signs of your coming kingdom, your kingdom already with us.

Help us to be still, to wait. Help us to redirect noisy distraction to purposeful attention to the things that truly matter—loving you, keeping Sabbath, loving and serving our neighbour. Come, Lord Jesus.

Many thanks to Rev. Annemarie MacIntosh (Abundant Life Lutheran Church, East St. Paul, MB) for contributing our prayers this month!
