Whether that is a prayer for a peaceful resolution in Syria and South Sudan, sharing a refugee story with your friends on Facebook, or holding a congregation-wide fundraiser to send We Care kits and quilts to a remote refugee camp in Kenya (more info coming soon!), it all helps to change lives for the better.
We have created some activities and resources to help you get involved. Some are listed below, but you can find more at www.clwr.org/WRD.htm and on our social media pages (the hashtag is #WRDclwr).
We will be sending out weekly emails to our news brief subscribers in the lead-up to June 20, with refugee stories and reminders of resources and events. Email firstname.lastname@example.org if you wish to sign up!
Hold a Refugee Sunday
Click here to download a worship resource, including reflections, hymn suggestions, a litay and a prayer. We suggest June 22, but any Sunday that suits your congregation better is great.
Attend a free one-hour webinar on private refugee sponsorship
Learn about the private sponsorship program in Canada, how CLWR plays an important role as a Sponsorship Agreement Holder with the government and how Canadians can get involved. You will also hear from special guest speakers who have been impacted by the refugee sponsorship program. It will be held Thursday, June 19, at 1 p.m. EDT. Click here to sign up! The webinar will be recorded for later viewing.
Attend a World Refugee Day event
Click here for more information on cities involved. For example, Canadian Council for Refugees is holding refugee walks in communities across the country. CLWR is involved with events in Kitchener-Waterloo and Vancouver.
Be sure to watch CLWR’s website and social media pages for stories and updates on the work you support for refugees. The hashtag is #WRDclwr. Feel free to share them or post your own stories using the hashtag!
