The youth at Emmanuel Community Church dug deep this spring to bring clean water to a community in Africa.

For several years the Calgary youth group has participated in the 30 Hour Famine to raise funds to fight hunger.

“This year they wanted something more tangible for the money they raised,” said Betty Pollock, office administrator at Emmanuel. “Some of the adults said you can buy gifts through CLWR.”

The group chose to fundraise for a well from the Gifts from the Heart catalogue. On April 20 and 21, 15 kids, ages 13-18, held their famine and hit their goal of $1750 (plus an extra $20 for good measure, donated to where needed most)!

“The kids were so excited about their goal to buy a well,” said Pollock.
